Summary: A moment happens between Rodney and John that is like switching a light bulb on
Info: This is my first story in ages, as I usually write most days... Sorry. Blame it on winter ailments!
Rodney was going to say to John how it had been an honour to know him... He really was going to say that. He'd almost said something like that to Daniel Jackson a few weeks ago, but now it was not enough...
He looked at John, and suddenly, he had slipped his hand around to cup John's face. A heartbeat or two meant that neither moved somehow...And Rodney's lips were lowered to John's face, first tracing a kiss around his cheek, from the tip of Rodney's gentle thumb just before John's ear, to John's lips... Rodney found them, and he kissed them... He didn't want to pull away. He had all that he had apparently just realised he wanted, right here... Forget Jennifer! Oh, that's right; he had..! Ronon could have her, and welcome!
Eventually, the moment had to break, just for time's sake, and the reason they had kissed to begin with... Yes. Rodney dared to think they had both taken part in that kiss.
"Sorry..." He whispered, and turned, then began walking away.
"Don't be..." John answered.
Rodney turned around, and that was when Zelenka's voice cut into the moment, over the comm..
When Rodney was the one in the driver's seat, literally, just moments after their first kiss, John looked at him as they knew they had to get on with the next move in their mission; he held Rodney's face, mirroring how Rodney had held his earlier..."I can't..." He said. "I want you to be able to concentrate on what you're doing!!"
"Sorry..." Rodney murmured what he had earlier. "I didn't think of that...."
"Hey!" John reprimanded Rodney gently. "What did I tell you?" He held Rodney's face again, carefully and gently still. "Don't be. Don't be sorry!" John stared at Rodney willing him to get the message. "I'm just arrogant about the power of my kissing abilities, that's all..!" He smirked playfully. "And yours were pretty fabulous, by the way..!" He added genuinely, trying to hit a balance that would encourage Rodney, but not cloud the judgement he'd soon need for flying the Jumper...
Rodney smiled, reaching up to capture John's hand in his, pulling it away from his face reluctantly. "Okay... Come on! We've got a job to do!"
John grinned. "Right! Save the day first, finish this later!"
Rodney prayed they could; that it wouldn't hang over them like the great unspoken thing these moments in life could sometimes become... For a start, he prayed there would be a later for them both at all...
Rodney and John held hands for half a second longer, then John had to turn to leave, and Rodney had to turn to face the control panels of the puddle jumper... Later, please, God, they would have their chance to face each other again...
